Richmond Roosters News Release

Washington, Pennsylvania – The Roosters jumped on the Washington Wild Things early and often on Sunday night, winning 11-3 to snap a three game losing skid. Richmond scored four in the first inning off Washington starting pitcher, Brendon Davis. Joe Cuervo led off and was hit by a pitch, Kevin White scored Cuervo on a single to center, and Blake Woods scored White on a single. Josh Hollingsworth scored the third run on a wild pitch and Tony Sanguinetti drove in the final run of the inning with a double that scored Woods.

Jared Howton, the starter for Richmond and former Washington pitcher, kept the Wild Things in check before being taken out after the fifth inning because of a high pitch count. He loaded the bases in the third inning but only gave up one run on a sacrifice fly by Lance Koenig that scored Mike Arbinger. Brendon Davis got the start for Washington and really only struggled in the first inning. He pitched five innings, gave up five runs on five hits, and walked three including a fifth inning home run by Kevin White, his second of the year.

Richmond continued to score off Washington's bullpen and got four more runs in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth for a total of eleven on the night. The Wild Things scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little and too late as the Roosters went on to win 11-3 and even the series at one game each.

The Roosters (2-3) finish the series against Washington (3-2) on Monday and look to even their record at .500. Matt Schweitzer (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will take the hill for Richmond with B.J. Borsa (0-1, 7.71 ERA) going for the Wild Things. Game time at Falconi Field is slated for 6:05pm Indiana time.
