Otters Select LW Chris Marchese With First Round Pick
May 1, 2010 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Erie Otters News Release
The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League announced this morning that they have selected left wing Chris Marchese of the Toronto Marlboros with the 11th overall pick in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection being held today via the Internet and conference call.
A resident of Woodbridge, Ontario, Marchese collected 39 goals and 56 assists in 72 games this season for the Marlboros.
"It is a privilege to be drafted by the Erie Otters and I'm ecstatic to be stepping into a great organization," Marchese said. "After the tenth pick, I just closed my eyes hoping to hear my name and once I did and I had a big fist pump and hugged my mom and dad. It's a dream come true."
Ontario Hockey League Central Scouting describes Marchese as "a skilled, offensive minded winger that possesses the size of a power forward but seems to bring a little more offensive creativity to the table. He possesses good feet, displaying real speed and quickness. He is very quick to skate to the open areas, and he always seems to be looking to sneak in behind defenders."
The Otters have 16 more picks in the selection process including two picks in each of the second (22nd and 31st) and third (50th and 51st) rounds.
The Sarnia Sting used the first overall pick in the Priority Selection to take forward Alex Galchenyuk from the Chicago Young Americans. The Belleville Bulls took defenseman Brendan Gaunce with the second pick while center Scott Laughton went to the Oshawa Generals with the third overall pick.
