Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors selected 13 players today in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection, including highly touted defenceman Nick Ebert with their first pick (17th overall).

The Majors took a defenceman with their second pick (37th overall) from the Ottawa Valley Titans, Ryan Duhaime. Duhaime was well liked by the Majors scouting staff and director of player personnel Jim Cassidy said they were very happy to get him, "He's a very skilled defender. He's intelligent, good skater, moves the puck well. He's aggressive and can become a good shutdown defenceman for us." Duhaime collected 16 points in 26 games this past season for the Titans.

Mississauga did not select again until the fourth round where they picked a tough winger named Grant Syrette from the Sault Ste. Marie North Stars, 77th overall. "We think he is quite possibly the toughest player in the draft" said Cassidy. Cassidy added after initial talks with Syrette that he was excited about the possibility of coming to St. Mike's. "Our scout in Sudbury found a real good player and we're just as excited about adding him as he is being drafted here. He had a strong showing in the OHL Cup and logged a lot of minutes with the North Stars."

The Majors made their fourth pick of the day in the fifth round (85th overall) and added defenceman Trevor Carrick from the Markham Majors. The Carrick name is no stranger to the OHL as both his brothers, Jake (Sault Ste. Marie) and Sam (Brampton) are currently playing in the league. "Trevor is a tough kid with good feet. He can move the puck well. I watched him play around 20 games this season and something that stood out was the fact he played well in big games for Markham" said Cassidy. Carrick had 29 points in 49 games for Markham this season.

Cassidy said he was pleased with the players that Mississauga selected and they were able to address one of their needs. "We wanted to get bigger and I believe with the players we selected we were successful in doing that. We picked a good mix of forwards and defencemen and the guys also have plenty of skill."

The Majors ended the day drafting seven forwards, five defencemen, and one goaltender. Here is the complete list of the players that were selected today by Mississauga.
