Evansville Otters News Release
FLORENCE, Ky. - After taking the lead in the third inning, the Florence Y'alls never looked back on their way to a 15-6 win over the Evansville Otters Wednesday.
Evansville scored the first runs of the game in the second, scoring a pair of runs on J.R. Davis' fifth home run of the season.
From there, Florence took over. In the third, the Y'alls evened the game with a two-run home run from Axel Johnson, Tuesday's walk-off hero for the Y'alls. Later in the inning, Harrison DiNicola and Ethan Stern also struck for RBI hits, raising the Florence lead to 4-2.
Two innings later, Florence put together another quartet of runs, this time on a grand slam from Brennan Price.
Directly after the big fly, Justin Watland's day ended, bringing in Tyler Spring. Spring managed to work around a pair of base hits to keep the game at 8-2.
In the seventh, the Y'alls worked through the lineup yet again, scoring six runs on five hits in the inning, extending their lead to 14-2.
Evansville managed a run in the eighth off the bat of Anthony Torreullas, who hit his first professional home run, a solo shot.
Florence grabbed the extra run right back in the bottom of the eighth as Andres Sthormes hit a solo home run of his own, giving the Y'alls a lead of 15-3.
As the ninth inning began, Florence sent out position player DiNicola to pitch - where he allowed the first five runners to reach, allowing a trio of runs before snagging the three outs.
The three runs in the ninth were not enough for Evansville as they fell 15-6, their biggest loss of the season.
Florence out-hit Evansville 18-6 in the contest.
Justin Watland took the loss, allowing eight runs on 10 hits in just four innings. Yasel Santana earned the win, allowing just two runs on two hits in his seven innings of work.
With the loss, Evansville drops their first series since the end of May against Trois-Rivieres.
The Otters will try to avoid the sweep on Thursday night at 5:34 p.m. CT as the series comes to a close. Coverage begins on the Evansville Otters YouTube page at 5:20 p.m.(CT).
