Crushers Put Up Goose Egg in Loss

Washington, PA. - The Lake Erie Crushers (14-21) coming off a hard loss on Tuesday night, entered Wednesday night's game in last place while the Wild Things (23-12) with a potential win moved back into first place in the Western Conference.

The Crushers failed to take advantage of opportunities as the team batted 0-12 with runners on and 0-6 with runners in scoring position. The offense and pitching of the Wild Things worked on all cylinders as the Wild Things won 7-0.

No runs were scored until the third inning. The Wild Things started with a solo home run to left field by Nick Ward. Scotty Dubrule, who had the game winning hit in Tuesday's game, chopped an RBI single to the shortstop. The last run of the inning came from a sac-fly off the bat of Andrew Czech, a three run third inning.

More runs from the Wild Things came in the fifth inning. The second RBI single from Dubrule. Czech followed with an RBI single of his own to right field.

The Crushers ace Joseph Sgambelluri had one of his toughest starts of his great season. Sgambelluri threw five and a third innings, allowing nine hits, five runs, with two strikeouts. On the other side it was a brilliant performance from Kobe Foster for Washington. Foster threw six shutout innings, allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out three.

Washington added more insurance runs in the seventh inning. Hector Roa lined a deep RBI double to left-center. Cole Brannen added an RBI single to center field.

With three outs to work with and an improbable comeback. The Crushers were able to record a hit from Austin White but that was the only offense of the inning as the Crushers were shutout for the first time this season and have dropped four of their last five. This was the Wild Things fourth shutout, they've won 10 of their last 13, and sit in first place in the West.

The Crushers will look to avoid the sweep in the series finale on Thursday, June 23rd. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
