Evansville Otters News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN - In the highest scoring game of the year at Bosse Field Wednesday night, the Otters came up just short, falling to the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti 16-13.

Evansville jumped out to a 6-3 lead after two innings, but Midwest scored 12 unanswered runs to take a 15-6 lead after the top of the fifth inning. The Otters battled back to trail 16-11 entering the ninth inning, when Greg Alexander hit a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 16-13, but that was as close as the Otters would get.

Some of the more remarkable performances were by the Sliders' Joash Brodin (2-for-4, 4 runs), Bryan Bonner (5-6, 3B, 4 RBI, 2 runs) and Lee Rubin (3-5, 2B, 5 RBI).

For the Otters, Kenny Gilbert (4-6, 3B, 2B, 2 RBI, 4 runs), Alexander (4-5, HR, 3 RBI, 3 runs) and Travis McCleary (2-6, 2B, 4 RBI) had banner nights.

Not surprisingly, neither starting pitcher lasted very long. The Otters' Kyle Dahman (1-2) was removed after 3 2/3 innings. He allowed nine runs (four earned) on nine hits. The Slider's Jeff Fischer had an even shorter outing, getting yanked after two frames in which he allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks. Reliever Adam Dominick (3-3) tossed three scoreless innings, earning the win.

The Otters (27-53) and Sliders (37-42) wrap up the three game series Thursday at 7:05pm CDT.
