Freedom Fall to Bolts

FLORENCE, KY - Dustin Pease took a no-hitter with him into the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs before Brad Hough was able to connect for a double down the left field line.

Pease and the Windy City Thunderbolts were able to win the game 8-2 Wednesday night at Champion Window Field over the Florence Freedom.

Allan Donato started for the Freedom and fell behind early giving up a run in the top of the first inning when J.T. Restko doubled off the right-center field wall to score Kraig Binick from first base.

Windy City's Vinnie Scarduzio hit was proved to be the game winner in the fourth as he connected to left for a two-run homer to cap a three run inning putting the Thunderbolts on top 4-0.

The Freedom finally pushed across a run in the seventh inning when trailing 7-0. With Hough at second and Ryan Basham at first, Johnny Welch doubled to right-center to make it 7-1.

Welch finished with two hits and two RBIs when he drove home the Freedom's final run home in the ninth to make it 8-2.

Donato dropped to 0-1 after allowing four runs on seven hits in five innings. Andy Clark was only able to record one out in the sixth as the right-hander was touched up for three runs. Jaeson Hudnall and Ben Shivers both made their Freedom debuts from the pen. Hudnall allowed one unearned run in one inning. Shivers lasted 1 2/3 innings without surrendering a run.

Pease (9-6) tossed his fourth complete game of the season in the win, allowing only two runs on five hits while striking out five.

The Freedom (37-42) host the Thunderbolts on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. for the series finale. Florence enters the night with a 3-2 season series edge on the two-time defending Frontier League champion Windy City Thunderbolts.
