Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, Pa.-The Washington Wild Things will help raise awareness and funds for ALS during the Saturday, Aug. 22, game against the Windy City Thunderbolts. The team is partnering with the ALS Association Western Pennsylvania Chapter for a jersey auction, a recitation of Lou Gehrig's "Luckiest Man" speech and more.

ALS, often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a fatal progressive neurodegenerative disease. The ALS Association leads the fight to cure and treat ALS through global, cutting-edge research and provides care and support for patients and their families. The Western Pennsylvania Chapter provides many services to the region, including patient services, research support, state and federal advocacy, and education for the public and medical professionals.

The Wild Things will wear special blue jerseys for the game, which will be auctioned off to raise money for ALS research in honor of Frank E. Mayak. Players also will read Lou Gehrig's legendary "Luckiest Man" speech prior to the game.

In addition, representatives from the ALS Association Western Pennsylvania Chapter will be on hand to answer questions and to sell red "Fighting Lou Gehrig's Disease" wristbands.

Ross Vecchio, Washington Wild Things general manager, said, "We are proud to partner with the ALS Association to raise money and awareness about Lou Gehrig's Disease. ALS is not only a significant issue across the globe; it has also deeply touched the baseball world, from Lou Gehrig to the work that Curt Schilling has done with the ALS Association."

First pitch for the game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets at the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office, by calling 724-250-9555 or by visiting http://www.washingtonwildthings.com.
