Beach Bums Take Game Two

SAUGET, IL-The Traverse City Beach Bums scored six times over the first two innings Wednesday night and held on to defeat the Gateway Grizzlies 7-6 in front of 1,062 at GCS Ballpark.

Traverse City improves to 37-43. The Grizzlies drop to a season-low 15 games under .500 at 32-47.

A pair of former Grizzlies led the Beach Bums' attack in game two of a three-game series. Michael Campbell hit a two-run home run in the first inning to put Traverse City up 2-0. He added two doubles and three more RBIs to finish with five runs driven in. John Alonso doubled in the first, hit a two-run home run in the second the added a single in the sixth and a triple in the ninth for the second cycle in Beach Bums history.

Joseph Scaperotta led the way for the Grizzlies. He was 3-4 with home runs in each of his first two at-bats. He doubled in the sixth to finish 3-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Charlie Lisk was 2-4 with a pair of RBIs. Breck Draper and Wilson Matos each added solo home runs in the loss.

Paige Dumont suffered the loss for the Grizzlies. Dumont allowed all seven runs over the first four innings. The right-hander settled in to pitch seven innings, striking out seven. He threw 137 pitches. Jason Kiley earned the win for the Beach Bums. Beach Bums' reliever BJ Hagen earned the save, pitching the final three innings. Hagen struck out all nine hitters he faced.

The Grizzlies and Beach Bums conclude the series Thursday night at GCS Ballpark. Game time is 7:05 pm.
