Game Notes:

67's Graduates Gibbons and Nesbitt Experiencing Success in AUS Hockey

Travis Gibbons and Thomas Nesbitt have both found success playing in the East coast AUS hockey with Acadia and University of New Brunswick, respectively. Gibbons has 8 points (2g, 6a) through his first 10 games and Nesbitt has collected 9 points (4g, 5a) through 10 as well. The two players were both 67's standouts and fan favourites during their time in Ottawa.

Aaron Ekblad - Exceptional Talent

Aaron Ekblad is the first defenceman to ever earn "exceptional player status" that grants him the ability to play in the OHL as a 15 year old. The 6'3, 205 lb defender from Belle River, Ontario certainly has size to spare and has even shown that he can put the puck in the net too with 9 points (4g, 5a) through his first 19 games. Ekblad may only be 15 but he has an extensive hockey resume, first being given his player status, only the second player ever to earn that honour and then being selected first overall by Barrie in the OHL Entry Draft in the summer. Ekblad joins elite company in that John Tavares was the first player to be granted "exceptional status" in 2005 and he was later selected first overall by the NHL's New York Islanders. Ekblad wears number 5 and is a player that fans should keep an eye on Friday night.

Derek Hartwick Returns to Ottawa

Derek Hartwick will have some memories of his time with Ottawa when he comes back to the J. Benson Cartage Center on Friday night. Hartwick spent two seasons with the 67's from 2008-2010 appearing in 123 games and registering 12 points (2g, 10a).

Interestingly, three of the four games last season ended in a 3-2 score as well. Shane Prince (1g, 2a) and Cody Ceci (3a) each had 3 points against the Ice Dogs last season.

Special Teams (as of November 17, 2011):

POWER PLAY

Niagara Ice Dogs - 29 for 104 - 27.9% (1st in OHL)

PENALTY KILL

Niagara Ice Dogs - 70 for 93 - 78.5% (14th in OHL)

Game Notes:

Family Matters

The game on Sunday will feature two pairs of brothers. The 67's Ryan Shipley has an older brother, Steven, who plays left wing for the Ice Dogs. Meanwhile, the talented Hamilton brothers, Dougie and Freddie, return to Ottawa after participating in the Subway Super Series last Thursday night. The two brothers, both NHL draft picks, Freddie with San Jose and Dougie with Boston put on a show last Thursday night with Freddie picking up a hat trick in Team OHL's 10-7 over the visiting Russian junior squad.

First Rate First Rounders

The Ice Dogs feature three first-round NHL draft picks - one on offence, one on defence and minding the net. Ryan Strome, a natural scorer was selected 5th overall by the New York Islanders this past summer and just four picks later with the 9th pick the Boston Bruins selected defenceman Dougie Hamilton. Between the pipes the Phoenix Coyotes selected Canadian 2011 World Junior goalie Mark Visentin 27th overall during the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. All three are talented players that fans should keep an eye on and if you were at the Subway Super Series this past week you would have caught a sneak peek of them as they all participated in the event .

Local Talent

David Pacan and Billy Jenkins are both Ottawa born and raised. Pacan, played his junior hockey with the nearby Cumberland Grads.
