Kitchener Rangers News Release

The Kitchener Rangers beat the Erie Otters 8-1 at the Aud Friday Night. Captain Michael Catenacci scored a goal and three assists in his first home game since returning from injury.

The Rangers got off to a quick start with two goals in the opening two minutes. 45 seconds in, Tobias Rieder picked up his team-leading 14th goal of the year, picking up a pass from Michael Catenacci and firing it by Erie netminder Tyson Teichmann.

Less than a minute later, Radek Faska stripped the Otters of the puck inside Erie's blueline and fed it to Cody Sol. The overage defenseman's huge shot flew by Teichmann, giving him two goals in his last two games.

Kitchener would add one more before the end of the first frame, extending their lead 3-0. Catenacci beat Teichmann blocker-side to record his first goal since returning from injury. Eric Ming and rookie defenseman Jared Gilbert were credited with assists.

The Rangers out-shot the Otters 14-13 in the opening period of play.

Kitchener started the second period the same as they the first: less than a minute in, Catenacci found Rieder in front and he danced around a sprawling Teichmann and found the back of the net.The German forward has five goals and two assists in his last five games.

The Rangers led shots on goal in the second, with a 19-16 advantage in the frame.

Kitchener continued their offensive push in the final frame. Cody Sol fired a hard shot from the high slot 1:39 seconds into the period to extend the Rangers' lead to 5-0. Catenacci picked up his fourth point of the night with a helper on the play. Tobias Rieder was credited with the second assist - his third point of the night.

Less than 30 seconds later, Matia Marcantuoni would score his seventh of the season, and second in as many games. Radek Faksa assisted on the play, extending his latest point-streak to four games. The goal would end Teichmann's night, with Devin Williams replacing him for the remainder of the third.

Erie would end Franky Palazzese's shutout bid at 7:29 with a power play goal from Luke Cairns. The centre's fourth of the season was assisted by Patrick Murphy.

Kitchener reestablished its six-goal lead midway through the third. Keli Grant showed patience to the right of Williams, eventually sliding the puck behind the Otter's reliever and into the net. Assisting on Grant's second goal of the year were Ming and Zach Lorentz.

The Rangers added one more with two minutes to play to make the final score 8-1. Brent Pedersen's low shot snuck past Williams giving him the fifth of his rookie campaign. The first-round pick of the Rangers in the 2011 Priority Selection, Pedersen was also named this week to Ontario's Under-17 Team. Brandon Lesway and Curtis Meighan were credited with the assists.

The Rangers finished the game with a 52-42 advantage in shots on goal.
