GREAT FALLS, Mont. - Missoula split another twin bill with 5-3 win and heartbreaking 3-2 loss to the Great Falls Voyagers at Centene Stadium. Dallas Newton and an early outburst of offense led the O's to a win in the opener while Tyler Bolton kept the scoring low and two-run seventh inning rally gave the Voyagers the split.
In the opening contest, the Osprey jumped on the board early with three runs in the first off Voyager starter Dane Stone (5-2), who has now lost his only two games of the summer against the Osprey. Missoula (13-14, 30-35) sent eight men to the plate in the opening frame and produced three runs on four hits. After adding a run in each of the next two innings, Missoula hung on for the victory behind Dallas Newton on the hill.
Newton (3-4) went 5.2 innings and the win ended a three-game losing streak as a starter. He allowed three earned runs off only four hits and tallied four strikeouts. Anthony Bazzani earned his third save of the summer with two punch-outs in the seventh inning.
The Missoula offense had thirteen hits in the game and all were singles except for Fernery Ozuna's seventh double of the year.
Great Falls (15-10, 32-31) took the latter game with a two-run seventh inning. Louie Lekich had a pinch-hit double of Jency Solis (3-1) and would later score off a Tyler Shryock groundout. With Hunter Jones at third base, who singled in the inning, a wild pitch by Solis would allow Jones to score and give Great Falls the 3-2 win.
Missoula had RBIs from Tyler Humphreys on a sacrifice fly and a double by Yosbel Gutierrez.
Tyler Bolton received a no-decision with one earned run in 4.2 innings and had four strikeouts.
Jon Bengard of Great Falls advanced to 2-0 after nearly being on the hook for the loss.
Missoula begins its last homestand of the season starting tomorrow against Helena with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Tickets for all Osprey games are available at the MSO Hub Box Office, by phone at (406) 543-3300 and online at MissoulaOsprey.com.
