Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

OREM, UT -- Orem is starting to play the type of baseball that brought the team the first half division crown. It was that Owlz squad that buried the Chukars early in the season. Late in the season, Orem has made it difficult for Idaho Falls again, completing the sweep with a 2-1 win.

Idaho Falls (33-34, 13-16) struggled against Keynan Middleton. The Owlz (38-28, 14-14) starting pitcher didn't allow a hit the first trip through the lineup. The Chukars only inning with multiple hits was the fourth. Brandon Downes reached base on an error, and later scored on a single by Robert Pehl to tie the game at 1.

Orem wasted no time getting on the board. Mike Jeffreys (2-2) allowed a solo home run to Andrew Daniel in the bottom of the first. It was one of the rare mistakes by Jeffreys, through six innings, and the only earned run he allowed. The Owlz picked up an unearned run in the fourth to take the lead. Michael Strentz doubled to shallow right field, and the ball rolled into foul ground. Luis Valenzuela delivered a wide throw to second base that allowed Strentz to score.

Ramon Rodriguez bridged the middle innings for Orem, keeping the Chukars hitless through three frames. Eduardo Peredes completed the save in the ninth inning.

The Chukars are swept by the Owlz at Brent Brown Ballpark for the second time this season, and finish the regular season 2-6 in Orem.

The Chukars fall to 4.5 games back of the Rockies (still in progress) with nine games left to play. Idaho Falls plays game five of eight in a row against Orem tomorrow, as the scene shifts to Melaleuca Field.
