
Osborn Belts Go-Ahead Grand Slam in Eighth Inning to Lead Ponies to Series-Opening Victory Over Somerset

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - With the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (29-27) trailing the Somerset Patriots 3-2 in the eighth inning, Drake Osborn belted a go-ahead grand slam to lead the Ponies to a 6-3 victory in the series opener on Tuesday night at Mirabito Stadium. It marked the first home run of Osborn's Double-A career.
With Somerset (28-30) leading 3-2 in the eighth, Ryan Clifford led off the frame with a double that came off his bat at 111 miles per hour. With one out in the frame Rowdey Jordan drew a walk. Nolan McLean followed with a walk, in which the fourth ball was automatically granted on a pitch timer violation from Jesús Liranzo (1-1). Later in the frame, Osborn came through on a 2-1 pitch and smashed a grand slam to left field to put Binghamton up 6-3.
Luis Moreno started for Binghamton and pitched five innings, while allowing just three runs and one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts. Justin Jarvis (4-2) shined in relief, spinning four scoreless frames with four strikeouts while allowing just one baserunner.
Somerset got out to a 3-0 lead with one run in the first and two in the third, highlighted by Grant Richardson's RBI double in the third inning.
Binghamton got on the board on a sacrifice fly from Jeremiah Jackson in the fourth and Jordan later scored on an error in the same frame to make it 3-2.
The Rumble Ponies continue their six-game series with the Somerset Patriots at Mirabito Stadium on Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on WNBF News Radio 1290 & 92.1 FM.
Postgame Notes: Osborn's grand slam marked the Ponies' first grand slam of the season...Osborn recorded his third multi-hit game and tied his season high with four runs batted in...Clifford doubled and walked and scored twice...Clifford drew his Minor League-leading 50th walk of the season...Jordan recorded his eighth multi-hit game of the season, reached base three times, and tied his career high with two stolen bases.
