Curve Fall in SeaWolves Slugfest

Altoona Curve News Release

Curve, Pa. - Seth Beer cracked a happy-hour home run for Altoona on Tuesday night, but the Erie SeaWolves rallied for 11 unanswered runs on 17 hits in an 11-2 loss for the Curve at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Beer swatted his fourth home run of the season with a two-run shot in the first inning. However, Beer's homer was one of only four hits the Curve could muster off Erie starter Austin Bergner, who allowed two walks and struck out six.

Thomas Harrington started for the Curve and allowed a career-high ten hits and matched his career-high with six runs allowed. Five runs came across for the SeaWolves against Harrington in the fifth inning, when an error by Beer at first base opened the door for a big inning. With the bases loaded, Chris Meyers singled home a run and Ben Malgeri followed with a long three-run homer to take a 5-2 lead for the 'Wolves.

The Curve bullpen was ouched for five key insurance runs late in the game after Emmanuel Chapman fired two scoreless innings in relief.

Beer's homer was his first home run of the season at PNG Field after hitting each of his previous three on the road. He picked up his 12th multi-hit game of the season in the defeat.

The Curve continue their series with the Erie SeaWolves, Double-A affiliate of Detroit Tigers, at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Altoona will send RHP Po-Yu Chen to the mound against LHP Carlos Pena for the SeaWolves.
