Losing Streak Hits Five with 3-1 Squirrels Loss

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Richmond Flying Squirrels were handed their fifth consecutive loss, falling to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 3-1, on Tuesday night at Delta Dental Stadium.

The Flying Squirrels (26-32) opened their 12-game road trip with a loss against the Fisher Cats (27-31).

In the bottom of the second, Rainer Nunez hit a solo homer to give the Fisher Cats a 1-0 lead. It was the only run allowed over five innings by Richmond starter Carson Ragsdale (Loss, 2-3).

In the sixth, the Fisher Cats scored two runs to open a 3-0 lead. Josh Kasevich scored on a wild pitch by Jose Cruz and Alex De Jesus scored on a double steal.

The Flying Squirrels scored their only run on a double by Alerick Soularie in the seventh. He had two of Richmond's five hits in the game.

Evan Gates pitched two scoreless innings for the Flying Squirrels, lowering his league-best ERA to 1.34.

Jairo Pomares hit a single in the top of the ninth to put the potential tying run in the batter's box, but New Hampshire reliever Ryan Boyer (Save, 4) worked the final three outs to end the game.

The Flying Squirrels and Fisher Cats continue the series on Wednesday night. Right-hander Nick Sinacola (0-1, 10.38) will start for Richmond countered by New Hampshire right-hander Deveraux Harrison (1-3, 5.01). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Delta Dental Stadium.

Following the two-week road trip, the Flying Squirrels return to The Diamond to host a six-game series against the Somerset Patriots, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, from June 25-30.
