Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
YESTERDAY'S LOSSES: Steve Clevenger hit two home runs and Donnie Murphy blasted the game-winning grand slam to finish off a six-run sixth inning as Iowa stormed back and then hung on to beat Omaha, 8-7, Saturday night in the second of a four-game set at Principal Park. The Storm Chasers also dropped the completion of Friday night's suspended game, 9-5, to dip to 29-37 on the season but stayed at four games behind Memphis. Iowa has won four of the six meetings between the I-80 rivals so far this year.
MIXED RESULTS THUS FAR: Number three overall Royals prospect Yordano Ventura allowed one hit and one run in his 5-inning Triple-A debut on June 6 vs OKC, but in his first career Triple-A road start on June 11 at Nashville he allowed five runs in 4.2 innings. Ventura has posted six and five strikeouts respectively in the two outings, giving him 85 total on the season across Double-A and Triple-A, one of 15 players to have at least 85 strikeouts in the Minor Leagues this year.
THAT WAS A SWITCH: Storm Chasers relievers had given up only 7 earned runs and one homer in 44.2 innings in the month of June going in to yesterday, but in eleven combined innings they allowed 11 earned runs and two homers.
FALU-ING AROUND THE BASES: With his stolen base in yesterday's loss, Irving Falu tied Anthony Seratelli for the team lead in stolen bases at nine. Falu has a stolen bases in three straight games, a feat he has accomplished once in his 506 career games with Omaha (7/2-7/6 of the 2011 season, not on consecutive days like this streak). Falu is currently 8th all-time on the Omaha steals list with 78, with 7th place at 80 steals (Terry Shumpert, 1989-93) and 4th place at 83 steals (Rondin Johnson, 1984-88).
SAY HAYES KID: Brett Hayes extended his on-base streak to 20 games with a first inning two-run double on Friday, and his streak is the longest active streak in the PCL and is tied for the longest streak this season for a Storm Chasers batter (Anthony Seratelli's 20-game streak from May 10 to June 1). Hayes is the 19th player in the league with an on-base streak of 20 or more games, and Omaha is the sixth team in the PCL to have two players string together on-base streaks of 20 or more games (Las Vegas, Nashville, Sacramento, Salt Lake, Tacoma).
NO CROWD QUIETING WINS: Omaha nearly rallied in the ninth in yesterday's loss, but fell to 0-21 when trailing after six innings on the road.
