Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

LAST NIGHT'S WIN: After being walked-off twice in Des Moines last week, Omaha notched their own walk-off win (their fourth of 2014) with three runs in the final two innings to take home the 7-6 victory. Brian Bocock scored the walk-off single with the bases loaded on a three-hit night, one of six Omaha batters with a multi-hit game. The win improved the Chasers to 12-2 this season in the 14 starts by Aaron Brooks in his first season of Triple-A action.

WHIT GETS IT: Since Whit Merrifield joined the Storm Chasers on June 7, he has racked up 46 hits in just 29 games which is tied for the most in the league with Iowa's Arismendy Alcantara. Merrifield already has more hits than he did in 44 games with Northwest Arkansas to start 2014 (45) and more multi-hit games (13 as opposed to 12 with the Naturals). Merrifield has the second best average since he joined the PCL at .393 (trailing Enrique Hernandez' .404), leads the league in doubles at 13, has the fourth most extra-base hits at 16 and has the fifth most total bases at 66. Merrifield is batting .417 (35-for-84) in his 19 games at the leadoff spot for Omaha.

ORLANDO MAGIC: Paulo Orlando had two hits and a steal last night, adding to his team leading total of 105 hits and 25 steals. He ranks second in the PCL in hits behind Sacramento's Shane Peterson at 112 and his steals total leads the league. Paulo had 125 hits and 14 steals in his first 150 games with Omaha in 2011 and 2013 (88 games this season). His career high for hits in a season was 136 in 2008 with Winston-Salem and Wilmington (High-A), while 29 steals is the most he has ever had (twice, once in 2006 with Kannapolis and once during that 2008 season).

A NEW YEAR: With a win in either of the two games in this series, Omaha would already match their amount of home wins against Iowa all of last year (3-5) and would surpass their total wins in the overall season series with five wins as opposed to their 4-12 record vs Iowa in 2013.

LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN: The Chasers have scored seven runs in all three wins during their three-game home winning streak (one off season high four-gamer set on May 12-13 and 23-24). In six of their last seven wins, Omaha has scored seven runs (only one not is 4-3 win in the series finale at Iowa). This season, Omaha has a record of 21-1 when reaching 7+ runs.

MAKING EM CHASE: Omaha has totaled 59 strikeouts in the five games on this homestand, and have reach double-digits in five of the last six games overall. Omaha leads the PCL with 95 strikeouts in July, 24 more than the next highest total (both Iowa and Sacramento have 71 so far this month). Omaha has totaled at least eight strikeouts in all nine July games.

LITTLE FOR LAMB: John Lamb is one of nine PCL pitchers with 8 losses, but in the eight losses he has received 12 total runs (has worst run support of any Omaha starter at 3.7 runs/game).
