Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Colorado Springs SS Rafael Ynoa had a career night Wednesday, tying a franchise record with four doubles as the Sky Sox (42-51) socked the Round Rock Express (46-45) 12-4 at Dell Diamond.
Ynoa, who joined the Colorado Rockies system during the offseason, finished 5-5 on the night to pace a 14-hit Sky Sox attack. The shortstop reached base six times in the game (five hits and a fifth inning walk), drove in three runs and scored twice.
Rockies superstar RF Carlos Gonzalez staked the Sky Sox to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first by belting a two-run home run into the Round Rock bullpen in left-center. Ynoa lined a leadoff single into center field and Cargo followed with his second dinger in three Triple-A rehab games.
The Express wasted little time in delivering their response, going for three runs in the bottom of the first to one up the Sky Sox. CF Jared Hoying got the scoring started for Round Rock, singling home SS Luis Sardinas, who led off with a base hit. With the bases loaded following a hit by pitch, DH Bryan Petersen tapped a slow roller back to the mound that Springs starting pitcher Brian Burres couldn't collect, allowing LF Michael Choice to score from third. Then, with 3B Ryan Rua at the dish, Hoying came across to give the E-Train a 3-2 advantage. It would be short lived.
The Sky Sox erupted for seven runs off Round Rock starter LHP Robbie Ross Jr. (1-2, 10.54 ERA) in the third to assume an imposing 9-3 lead. 2B Angelys Nina, 3B Drew Garcia and Ynoa all delivered two-run hits, while DH Tim Smalling plated the other run with a sacrifice fly.
Colorado Springs added two more in the sixth as CF Jason Pridie welcomed Express RHP Jimmy Reyes to Triple-A by taking him yard. With Nina on first following a single, Pridie hoisted his 10th home run of the season just over the wall in right field to make it 11-3.
E-Train 1B J.P. Arencibia went deep off Sky Sox RHP Mike McClendon (2-1, 3.30 ERA) in the seventh, a solo shot to dead center, but his 12th round tripper of the season did little to combat Colorado Springs' massive advantage.
McClendon would go on to pick up the win after entering for Burres after the first. The right-hander allowed one run on four hits in six solid innings of relief.
The Sky Sox tacked on a final run in the ninth on an RBI double by Ynoa to bring the final score to 12-4.
The Express and Sky Sox will conclude their series and the homestand Thursday at Dell Diamond. RHP Luke Jackson (0-0, 6.43 ERA) is slated to take the mound for Round Rock, while Colorado Springs will counter with rehabbing LHP Chris Capuano (0-0, 0.00 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. as Christmas In July as it will be Christmas In July at the ballpark.
The Original Thirsty Thursday will also return for the series finale with discounted draft beers and $1 sodas, presented by Firetrol. For more information on the Express, visit www.RoundRockExpress.com or call (512) 255-2255. Keep up with the Express on Facebook and Twitter !
