Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Tacoma Rainiers swatted 19 hits on their way to a 14-7 victory over the Salt Lake Bees Tuesday night at Smith's Ballpark. The first six Tacoma batters reached base in the first inning before the Bees were able to turn a double play and force a ground out to end the five-run barrage. Salt Lake fought back with a run in the bottom of the inning, but Tacoma bats stayed hot putting a run up in the second, three in the third and five in the fifth.

The Bees complied a mini-rally in the fifth headed by a lead-off long ball from Shawn O'Malley, his first home run of the season. The rest of the Bees followed with three straight doubles from the bottom of the lineup and were able to plate four in the inning. With two more runs in the sixth, the Bees managed to come within seven, but were unable to close the gap. Justin Thomas (4-8) left the game after two and one thirds innings after allowing three homers and eight earned runs. Jeremy Berg gave up five over an inning and two thirds before Kyler Newby, Ryan Chafee and Yoslan Herrara strung together four shutout innings. Jordan Pries (6-5) earned the win for Tacoma.

The Bees return to Smith's Ballpark tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. for game three of the series against Tacoma. For tickets and more information visit slbees.com .
