Iowa Cubs News Release

PAPILLION, NE - It was a pitcher's duel Saturday evening at Werner Park, as the Omaha Storm Chasers (60-70) edged the I-Cubs (47-83) 3-2 to split the four-game series at one apiece.

Iowa collected the first run of the game in the third. Terrance Gore drew a walk and made his way to third on a failed pickoff attempt to set up a Stephen Bruno RBI sac fly for a 1-0 lead.

Despite jumping on the board in the third, the I-Cubs were held hitless through 6.1 frames as Jonathan Dziedzic (W, 7-9) tossed 6.2 innings while giving up two runs, one earned, off three hits, three walks and four strikeouts.

Across the lines, Iowa's Jen-Ho Tseng (L, 2-14) kept stride for 5.1 strong frames before surrendering a RBI double off the bat of Major League rehabber Brian Goodwin to lock the game at one. The game would not stay locked for long, as Nicky Lopez blasted a two-run home run to push Omaha ahead 3-1.

Iowa answered back in the top of the seventh as Jacob Hannemann extended the inning with a two-out double. Trey Martin proceeded to keep the line moving with a RBI single to score Hannemann and cut the deficit to 3-2.

However, Omaha's Richard Lovelady proved too dominant. The righty held the I-Cub offense to just one hit from Taylor Davis in the ninth for 2.1 innings and two strikeouts to notch his seventh save.

The I-Cubs continue their last road series of the season with the third of a four-game set against Omaha on Sunday, 2:05 CT at Werner Park. Follow the action on AM 940 or www.iowacubs.com.
