Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
JULY 19, 2005, 7:05 p.m.: OMAHA ROYALS (43-53) vs. Round Rock Express (48-48)
HOME: 17-23 (39-33 in â04) AWAY: 26-30 (32-40 in '04) vs. Round Rock: 9-4 (N/A in '04)
TONIGHT: The Royals host Round Rock in game 2 of a 4-game series and 8-game home stand. Air-time is 6:45 p.m. on Magic 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com.
LAST NIGHT: Kyle Snyder retired the first 17 Round Rock batters he faced and wound up combining with Shawn Sonnier on a three-hitter as the Royals blanked the Express 5-0. Snyder (1-2), making his sixth start for Omaha, had his perfect game spoiled when Alex Eckelman singled up the middle with two outs in the 6th. He retired the next and last batter he faded. Sonnier allowed just two singles in his three innings, fanning five batters and notching his first save. Paul Phillips broke a scoreless tie in the 4th with a two-run homer off Travis Driskill (6-4), who also gave up a three-run bomb to Chad Santos in the 6th that carried over the roof above the right field bleachers. The game marked the fifth shutout win for Omaha and seventh whitewash loss for Round Rock.
ROYALS REPORT: In his six starts, Snyder has a 2.84 ERA (8 ER in 25.1 IP) and has walked only five batters while striking out 19. *** In seven relief outings since being promoted from Wichita where he was a Texas League All-Star, Sonnier is 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA and 1 save. In 12.2 innings, he has notched 19 strikeouts. *** Santos has hit in seven of his last eight contests, going 11-for-34 (.324) with two home runs and seven RBI. *** Phillips went 2-for-3 last night, singling in addition to homering. He had been in a 4-for-35 funk (.114) over his previous nine games. *** Calvin Pickering is hitting at a .417 clip (15-36) over his last ten games. He has smacked three homers and knocked in ten runs over that stretch. *** Chris Truby is hitting .154 (8-52) over his past 14 tilts. *** Aaron Guiel is 7-for-his-lastd-33 (.212). *** Justin Gemoll has hit in seven of his last eight games, batting .414 (12-29) during that period. *** Adrian Brown, despite going 0-for-4 last night, still owns a .340 average (18-53) over his past dozen starts. *** Luis Ugueto is hitless in his last 17 at-bats. *** Jaime Jones has scored nine runs over the past five games he has played, while going 5-for-14 (.357) at the plate. *** Cory Aldridge is in a 6-for-52 (.115) funk at the plate. That follows a 10-for-23 (.435) in his first six games after being promoted from Wichita. *** Over his last four contests, Denny Hocking has gone 6-for-16 (.375) with two RBI and four runs scored.
