Giants' Grissom to begin rehab in Fresno Tuesday night

July 19, 2005 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Fresno, CA-The Fresno Grizzlies will have the rare chance to put two proven Major League veterans together on the same field Tuesday night at 7:05 P.M. at Grizzlies Stadium. San Francisco Giants' outfielder Marquis Grissom will join teammate Edgardo Alfonzo in Fresno as he begins a rehab assignment. Grissom and Alfonzo were placed on the disabled list on June 13th.

Grissom will likely start at one of the three outfield positions while Alfonzo will likely DH for the second straight night. The 38-year-old Grissom was batting .211 (26 for 123) with two home runs and 14 RBI before being placed on the DL with a strained left hamstring muscle. The 31-year-old Alfonzo played the entire game tonight as the designated hitter for Fresno, going 3-4 with three singles in a 7-3 win over the Salt Lake Stingers. The two veterans bring a combined 26 years of Major League experience to the Grizzlies lineup.

The Grizzlies will play the second game of their eight-game homestand tomorrow night. For tickets or ticket information, contact the Grizzlies Ticket Office at 559-320-TIXS or visit the Grizzlies online at www.fresnogrizzlies.com.
