Oklahoma City Comets News Release

New Orleans erased an early 5-1 deficit with a two-run single by Rick Short in the sixth inning to record a come-from behind, 7-5 win over the RedHawks in the series opener at Zephyr Field.

New Orleans is now only a half-game back of the RedHawks for third place in the American South.

The Zephyrs, 43-50, have won eight of nine against Oklahoma this year and sent the RedHawks to their fifth straight loss.

Pitching a collection of relievers, New Orleans fell behind 5-1 on Adrian Gonzalez' three-run homer in the third off Roy Corcoran. But Oklahoma would not score again off Joe Horgan, Travis Hughes and Bill Bray in falling to 45-51.

Horgan (4-1) earned the win with Bray earning his second save. Oklahoma starter Ryan Snare (1-5) lost his third straight start by allowing single runs in the first and third, plus two in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Snare went 5.2 innings, allowing 13 hits and five earned runs.

Gonzalez was 4-for-5 with his second homer in as many games. Manny Alexander and Ian Kinsler chipped in two-hit games.

R.A. Dickey is slated to start for Oklahoma Tuesday in game two, to be opposed by New Orleans' Brian Powell.

Game time is 7:05 p.m. CDT and the broadcast can be heard on Super Talk 930 WKY and Sportsjuice.com
