Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Gary, Ind.-The Gary SouthShore RailCats Professional Baseball Club today announced right-handed pitcher Quintin Oldenburg has been named to the South Division team for the upcoming Northern League All-Star Game. The game, presented by U. S. Steel Gary Works, will be held Tuesday, July 19, at U. S. Steel Yard, home of the RailCats.

Oldenburg, 26, is 8-3 with a 3.77 ERA in his first full season in professional baseball. The Appleton, Wisconsin native set a RailCats club record by winning six consecutive decisions to open the season, and is only one win shy of the RailCats all-time and single-season wins record, held by Sazi Guthrie. His eight first half wins put him one win behind the league leader, Greg Bicknell of Kansas City, whose record sits at 9-1.

In his second start of the season, May 27 at Schaumburg, Oldenburg was nearly un-hittable, allowing just one hit in six innings, striking out five. The right-hander surrendered just six hits in his first three starts of 2005, a span of 16.0 innings. Oldenburg has been consistent all season long, lasting at least five innings in each of his 12 starts, and allowing no more than four earned runs in any start.

Oldenburg, the 2001 Horizon League Pitcher of the Year at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, holds UW-M career records for ERA and winning percentage. He pitched in the semi-pro Wisconsin State League for four seasons before signing with the RailCats August 8, 2004 and going 0-1 with a 2.91 ERA that season.

The 2005 Northern League All Star Game, presented by U. S. Steel Gary Works and co-sponsored by the Post-Tribune, will be played July 19 at U. S. Steel Yard. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with the festivities starting at 5:30 with the Home Run Derby, presented by Great Lakes Orthopedics. First pitch of the game is scheduled for 7:30.
