Oklahoma City Comets News Release
LAST GAME: The RedHawks rallied for a 13-7 win over the Sidewinders Monday afternoon at the Brick. Oklahoma built a 6-2 lead after six innings on six hits, including home runs from Chris Shelton and Nick Trzesniak. Tucson plated five runs in the top of the eighth, four of which were charged to reliever Joselo Diaz after he walked four of the five batters he faced. The RedHawks tagged Tucson closer Reid Mahon for six runs in the home half of the inning and added on against Dustin Glant to cap the scoring in the victory.
65 WINS: Oklahoma reached the 65 win plateau in 117 games this season, 11 fewer than the club took in 2007 to reach the same mark. The RedHawks won their 65th game on August 20 last year with a 6-2 win over New Orleans and finished the season with a 71-72 record.
ITS FAIR PLAY:
After hitting into four double plays and allowing a seven run seventh inning in Sunday's loss, Oklahoma matched the numbers in their favor on Monday. The RedHawks matched their season-high by turning four double plays, and scored seven in the bottom of the eighth inning for the win. It was the fourth time this year that Oklahoma turned four double plays in a game.
EIGHT STRAIGHT:
Nate Gold has hit safely in eight consecutive games and now has at least one hit in 14 of his last 15 games. This current hitting streak is his second longest of the season behind a 12 game streak from June 23 through July 5. Gold is hitting .394 during this stretch, which began with a three home run game at Colorado Springs on July 28.
TRZESNIAK GOES YARD:
Nick Trzesniak hit his first home run during this stint with the RedHawks in Monday afternoon's win. The 27 year-old signed with Texas before the 2006 season and began the year with Oklahoma, playing in 50 games that season before being traded to Florida. His last home run as a RedHawk was on April 29, 2006 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark against Albuquerque in a 5-4 Oklahoma loss. The three-run shot off Buddy Carlyle in the seventh inning scored Adam Morrissey and Joaquin Arias.
SKINNY ON SCHERZER:
The Sidewinders with start Max Scherzer tonight against Oklahoma. The right-hander entered the season as the fourth-highest rated prospect in the Arizona Diamondbacks system and began the year with Tucson. After four starts with the Sidewinders, Scherzer was promoted to the Majors. He made ten appearances for the Diamondbacks, going 0-2 with a 2.90 ERA before getting optioned on June 13. Scherzer missed nearly a month of the season with right shoulder problems.
TUCSON AT A GLANCE
: Trent Oeltjen went 0-5 Monday and saw his hitting streak stopped 14 games... Jeff Salazar and Josh Whitesell had hits yesterday to extend their hitting streaks to eight and 12 games, respectively... The Sidewinders have committed 102 errors this season, fourth most in the PCL. The only teams that have been charge with more errors are Iowa (103), Albuquerque (104), and Oklahoma (105).
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:
Texas walked off with a 9-5 win over the New York Yankees on a Marlon Byrd grand slam in the bottom of the ninth... Frisco staved off San Antonio 8-6... Bakersfield and Clinton did not play... Spokane beat Tri-City 13-9.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
The RedHawks improved to 11-7 in Monday contests this season with yesterday's win and are now 14-14 in day games... Casey Benjamin notched his first multi-RBI game of this season by driving in two Monday. Benjamin drove in multiple runs 11 times for Frisco last season over 130 games for the RoughRiders. Monday was his 54th game of the season for Oklahoma... RedHawk pitched have walked 323 batters this season, the fewest of any Triple-A club this season.

Every game this season can be heard on the RedHawks Radio Network, led by broadcaster Jim Byers for the ninth season, and joined by Adam Marco during each homestand. Fox Sports Radio AM 1340 in Oklahoma City will serve as the flagship station in 2008. The network affiliates this season are KSIW 1450 AM in Woodward, KXCA 1380 AM in Lawton, KPNS 1350 AM in Duncan, KTJS 1420 AM in Hobart, KGFF 1450 AM in Shawnee, and KWSH 1260 AM in Wewoka.
