Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Oklahoma City, OK - Jeff Salazar had two hits and two RBI and Josh Whitesell went 2 for 4 with a RBI as the Sidewinders beat the Oklahoma Redhawks 6-3 on Tuesday night at Bricktown Ballpark.
Salazar got things going right off the bat with a leadoff double against Derek Lee. Trent Oeltjen sacrificed Salazar to third and Tim Raines, Jr. hit a ground ball to second that was misplayed by Drew Meyer allowing Salazar to score. Whitesell followed with a double to score Raines and give the Sidewinders a 2-0 lead.
Max Scherzer started for the Sidewinders and once again looked good as he returns from right shoulder fatigue. Scherzer allowed just two hits in four innings and struck out six.
The Sidewinders put the game away in the fourth as they strung together five singles to score four runs. Whitesell opened the inning with a hit and moved to second on Robby Hammock's one out base hit. Wilkin Castillo and Donnie Kelly followed with RBI base hits and Salazar capped the inning with a two run single up the middle.
Esmerling Vasquez picked up the win with three innings behind Scherzer. Vasquez (3-5) allowed a pair of unearned runs on three hits. He walked one and struck out one.
Connor Robertson pitched a scoreless eighth and Jailen Peguero gave up a run in the ninth.
The Sidewinders and Redhawks wrap up their four game series on Wednesday morning at Bricktown Ballpark. Right-hander Matt Torra (2-3, 5.21) will start for Tucson against right-hander Kameron Loe (3-4, 4.96) for Oklahoma. First pitch is at 9:05 am. The game will air LIVE on the internet at www.tucsonsidewinders.com beginning at 8:55.
