TODAY'S MATCHUP
LH Matt Harrison (3-1, 3.94) vs. RH Nelson Figueroa (3-2, 2.89)
Harrison:
Allowed 2 R on 5 H over 5.0 IP with 2 K and 4 BB in 6/28-2 win @ OMA (9-4 OKL) Figueroa:
Allowed 3 R on 4 H with 1 K in 5.0 relief innings in 6/28 ND @ MEM (11-1 MEM) LAST GAME: The RedHawks rallied within a run late, but the Zephyrs tacked on some insurance and took the game by an 7-2 final. Tommy Hunter made his first Triple-A start for Oklahoma, pitching six plus quality innings, but still took the loss. The RedHawks plated runs in the seventh and eighth innings to bring the deficit down to 3-2, but the Z's added four runs off reliever Brandon Puffer to cap the scoring and win their second straight game.
NOT SO BIG EASY: The RedHawks are hitting .260 against the Zephyrs this season, but only batting .203 in New Orleans. Oklahoma went 28 for 132 in the series June 5 through 8 (.212), and have gone 19 for 99 in the first three games of this set (.192). The RedHawks have been outscored 29-22 at Zephyr Field this season.
WA TOI PLI TAR (SEE YOU LATER): The RedHawks and Zephyrs will meet for the final time this season when they take the field tonight. The clubs split the season series in 2007 with each taking eight games, including five Oklahoma wins at Zephyr Field and five New Orleans wins at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
GOLD GOES HIGHER:
Nate Gold is riding an nine-game hitting streak dating back to June 23. Gold is hitting .414 during the streak and has raised his average from .210 to .233 in the process. It ties Brandon Boggs and John Mayberry for the fifth longest streak this season by any RedHawk.
HEY NOW:
Nelson Cruz was named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team earlier today. Nelson is Oklahoma's lone representative on the squad this year. Cruz was also an All-Star in 2006 as a member of the Nashville Sounds.
HONORED AGAIN:
Nelson Cruz and Chris Davis shared the PCL Offensive Player of the Week award for June 16 through 22, and the dynamic duo was tabbed as the Rangers Minor League Players of the Month for June. Cruz hit .387 during the month with nine home runs and 28 runs batted in over 26 games, while Davis hit .352 with nine homers and 25 runs batted in after 24 games prior to his promotion to Texas on June 26.
NEW ORLEANS AT A GLANCE:
The Zephyrs have not won three straight games in nearly a month. New Orleans took the final three games of the series with Oklahoma on June 6, 7, and 8, and then won the first game of a set with Omaha... Michel Abreu has hit safely in his last 11 home games, the sixth longest active streak in the PCL... The Z's are the league third best fielding club at .979, keyed by Argenis Reyes, the league's best defensive second baseman.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:
Texas fell 18-7 against New York at Yankee Stadium... Frisco had the day off... Bakersfield lost 9-4 to San Jose... Clinton slipped at Beloit 2-1... Spokane capped a winless day with a 9-8 loss at Yakima.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
Nelson Cruz leads the minors with 73 runs scored and trails only Lance Berkman and Ian Kinsler (74 each) for the overall lead in professional baseball... Oklahoma will don charity jerseys in each of the first two games of the upcoming homestand. Friday evening, the club will wear camouflage jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit Limbs for Life, while Saturday they will wear Chicago Bears styled informs to benefit The Children's Center. The Chicago-inspired jerseys coincide with former Sooner and current Bear Dusty Dvoracek's appearance at the Brick.
ON THE AIR:
Every game this season can be heard on the RedHawks Radio Network, led by broadcaster Jim Byers for the ninth season, and joined by Adam Marco during each homestand. Fox Sports Radio AM 1340 in Oklahoma City will serve as the flagship station in 2008. The network affiliates this season are KSIW 1450 AM in Woodward, KXCA 1380 AM in Lawton, KPNS 1350 AM in Duncan, KTJS 1420 AM in Hobart, KGFF 1450 AM in Shawnee, and KWSH 1260 AM in Wewoka. Each game will also be broadcast on the internet through the audio link at www.oklahomaredhawks.com.
