Fresno Splits Series With Tucson

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Sidewinders dropped a close one to Fresno 6-3 on Thursday night in front of 10,545 fans.

The first runs of the game came in the fifth inning when Fresno's Eugenio Velez hit a single to center scoring Eli Whiteside and Ehire Adrianza to make the score 2-0. Tucson cut Fresno's lead by one in the bottom of the fifth with an Alex Romero RBI single that got by the diving second baseman.

Fresno extended their lead in the sixth and seventh inning with a total of four runs in the two innings. Three of the four runs were scored in the sixth inning with an Eli Whiteside 3 RBI double to left field. The next batter Ehire Adrianza struck out swinging. After his bat the game was suspended for 27 minutes due to rain. The last run came in the seventh inning off a wild pitch by Tucson's Dustin Glant, which scored Clay Timpner from third.

A two run, pinch-hit, homerun by Tucson's Trent Oeltjen cut the Sidewinders made the score 6-3, but it wasn't enough to give the Sidewinders their third straight victory. The pinch hit homer was the first for the Sidewinders this season.

The Sidewinders will travel to Salt Lake to face the Bees for a four game series at 6:05 PM. RHP A.J. Shappi (0-2, 5.79) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Right-hander Dustin Moseley (4-4, 5.43) will start for the Bees. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 5:55 p.m.
