Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - Usher in Independence Day a little early this year with a July 3 tribute at The Dell Diamond.

Thursday's game against Albuquerque will feature a swearing in ceremony for United States Army enlistees, anthem songs from every branch of the Armed Forces, patriotic player jerseys, free miniature US flags for fans and post-game fireworks.

FSN Southwest will also carry the July 3 game as part of the Houston Astros Minor League Game of the Week presented by Ryan Sanders Baseball and Citgo.

Fans to the July 3 Military Appreciation Night presented by Alcoa Rockdale Operations can also support troops by bringing in items for Troop Care Packages. Every fan that brings an item to The Dell Diamond home plate entrance will receive two free general admission tickets to the Express' July 23 game against Fresno. Possible Troop Care Package items include toiletries such as sun block, hand sanitizer and toothpaste, candy, gum, beef jerky, dry soup, pre-paid phone cards, batteries, sheets, towels and travel size board games. For a full list of acceptable donation items, please log on to www.roundrockexpress.com.

The July 3 celebration will kick-off with a swearing in ceremony before a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Between innings, each branch of the Armed Forces will be recognized and their anthem music piped in over the PA. God Bless America will replace Take Me Out to The Ballgame during the seventh inning stretch and fireworks will light the sky immediately following the game.

In addition, Round Rock will hand out miniature US flags and the Express will don special patriotic jerseys sponsored by Alcoa Rockdale Operations honoring the United States Armed Forces. The jerseys will be autographed and auctioned off on eBay with a $100 starting reserve price beginning Tuesday, July 8 at 5:00 p.m. The auction will close after seven days and all of the proceeds will go to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.

Last year's auction raised more than $10,000 for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund which is a leader in supporting the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families.

Started in 2000 under the auspices of the Intrepid Museum Foundation, and established as an independent not-for-profit organization in 2003, the Fund has provided close to $60 million in support for the families of military personnel lost in service to our nation and for severely wounded military personnel and veterans. These efforts are funded entirely with donations from the public, and hundreds of thousands of individuals have contributed to the Fund.
