PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Beavers first baseman Brian Myrow today was selected to represent the Pacific Coast League in the 2008 Triple-A All-Star Game, which will be held Wednesday, July 16, at Louisville Slugger Field in Louisville, Ky.

The Triple-A All-Star Game annually pits the best players from the Pacific Coast League against the best from the Triple-A International League in a head-to-head contest. Next season's game will be played at PGE Park, as the Beavers and the city of Portland play host to the 2009 Cricket Wireless Triple-A All-Star Game on July 15, 2009.

Myrow, 31, is currently batting .329 with 10 home runs, 20 doubles, one triple, 67 walks, 52 RBIs and 54 runs scored in 82 games with Portland this season. The veteran first baseman leads the PCL in on-base percentage (.459) and walks, and ranks seventh in batting average.

In two seasons with the Beavers (2007-08), Myrow is batting .343 with 23 home runs, 51 doubles, five triples, 123 walks, 125 RBIs and 115 runs scored over 189 games. Last season, Myrow became the first Portland batter since 1946 to win a PCL batting title, edging Iowa's Geovany Soto by hitting .354. Myrow's batting average was the highest to lead a Beavers club since Ted Norbert batted .378 to top the 1942 team.

Myrow's selection marks the second time in the Beavers' eight seasons back in the PCL that a Portland first baseman was named to the PCL All-Star team. Last season, pitcher Jack Cassel represented the Beavers in the Triple-A All-Star Game.

Both all-star teams were selected by club personnel, field managers, media representatives and through online fan balloting. This year's game marks the 11th consecutive season that teams representing the PCL and IL have met; the prior 10 meetings pitted National League affiliates against American League affiliates.

In 10 years under the current format, the series is tied, 5-5. The winning side will once again serve as the home team at the Triple-A championship game - the Bricktown Showdown - in Oklahoma City, Okla., this September.

Former Beaver Jared Wells, now with Tacoma, was also selected to the PCL All-Star team. Wells played for Portland for parts of three seasons (2006-08) and currently leads the PCL with 15 saves.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's Dave Miley will manage the International League squad, while Nashville skipper Frank Kremblas will lead the Pacific Coast League All-Stars. Former Beavers manager Rick Sweet, who piloted the club from 2001-03, is a coach on the International League club. Sweet, a resident of Vancouver, Wash., is currently in his fourth season as the manager of the Louisville Bats, the top affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.

The 21st-annual Triple-A All-Star Game will be televised live on ESPN2 and begins at 4:05 p.m. (Pacific). The game can be heard locally on KKAD AM-1550 and on the Internet at www.portlandbeavers.com.

Since its introduction in 1988, the Triple-A All-Star Game has attracted more than 250,000 fans to a host of premier cities and ballparks. The 2007 game was played in Albuquerque, N.M., as the International League defeated the Pacific Coast League 7-5 in a spirited game that drew 12,367 fans to Isotopes Park and thousands more to an impressive variety of city-inspired events. In recent years, the marquee all-star event has evolved from a one-day competition into a week-long, city-wide celebration. Additional events planned surrounding the 2009 Cricket Wireless Triple-A All-Star Game in Portland include a home run derby, All-Star Fan Fest and autograph sessions, All-Star Gala, All-Star Luncheon and several other activities to mark the historic event.
