TODAY'S OPPONENT:
The New Orleans Zephyrs are the Triple-A affiliate of New York Mets. The have been a member of the Pacific Coast League since 1998. This is the first year the Mets are the parent club. Zephyrs were affiliated with Washington Nationals in 2005-06. Last year, Zephyrs finished third in the American South with a record of 72-71.
TODAY'S GAME:
Game 23 of the season, and final game of four-game series. This is game 4 of 16 vs. New Orleans this season.
LAST GAME:
RedHawks got a strong pitching performance from starter Mike Wood. Wood allowed one run on four hits in seven innings of work for his second win of the season. The offense had another good night scoring 10 runs on 10 hits. Guillermo Quiroz went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
VS. NEW ORLEANS:
The Zephyrs won the season series last year 10-6. RedHawks lead the overall series 79-66. RedHawk hitters hit .234 with nine homers vs. New Orleans pitching last year. 'Hawk pitchers had a 4.63 ERA vs. the Zephyrs.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Alfredo Simon
makes his fifth start of the season for Oklahoma. In his last start 4/24 at Round Rock, he allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings. Last year while pitching for Fresno, Simon lost to New Orleans, allowing two runs on three hits in seven innings. Jorge Sosa goes to the mound for the Z's.
FINALE WOES:
RedHawks are still looking for a win in the final game of a series this season (0-5). They lost 14-7 Tuesday at Round Rock. In the last game of that series.
CLUTCH HITTING:
Over the last seven games, RedHawks are hitting .394 (28-71) with runners in scoring position, after going 5-for-10 last night. In the first 15 games of the season, they had just 22 hits with RISP. They are now hitting .249 (50-201) for the season with RISP.
VICTOR DIAZ: Victor Diaz
is riding a seven-game hit streak into today's game, he is 12-for-29 (.414) with two homers and 17 RBIs during the streak. He has at least two RBIs in each of the last four games.
TUG HULETT:
Since taking over the starters job at second base Monday at Round Rock, Tug Hulett has hit safely in five straight games. He is 9-for-16 (.563) with an RBI and five runs scored in that stretch. His average has risen from .192 to .333 in that span, and the RedHawks are 4-1 with Hulett at second base.
STARTERS GET GOING:
RedHawks have won six of their last seven, and the starters are 5-0 with four quality starts and a 3.70 ERA in that stretch. For the season, the starters are 7-7 with a 4.43 ERA, and the bullpen is 5-3 with a 1.80 ERA.
'HAWKS VS. PCL:
Diaz is second in the league with 28 RBIs, is tied for second with 31 hits and ninth with a .360 average ... Freddy Guzman is fifth with seven stolen bases ...
