TUCSON, Ariz. - Rich Thompson had four hits, Chris Carter hit his second homer and Enrique Gonzalez struck out six and gave up two runs in seven innings for the Tucson Sidewinders in a 4-3 victory over the Portland Beavers Sunday afternoon at Tucson Electric Park.

The win gave the Sidewinders (11-11) a series split with the Beavers, who begin a four-game set with the Salt Lake Bees at PGE Park on Monday night.

Portland (10-13) was 3-4 on its abbreviated road trip and missed a chance at its first winning trip since July 2006.

Gonzalez (1-2) gave up a pair of first-inning runs but settled in to allow just two hits over the next six scoreless innings. He gave up five total hits and one walk to notch his first victory of the year.

Gonzalez' counterpart, Jared Wells, allowed four runs, nine hits, three walks and struck out three in six innings in the loss. Wells, who is in his second season with the Beavers, has lost his last seven decisions with the club and last won Aug. 12, 2006.

Brett Dowdy, who was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Craig Stansberry singled to start the game, and Brian Myrow's two-run double gave the Beavers the lead in the first.

Jeff Salazar reached on a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fourth and Carter's two-run homer to right off Wells (0-4) tied the game. The Sidewinders took the lead with an RBI single from Salazar in the fifth and added to the advantage when Brian Barden tripled and scored on an RBI groundout from Jamie D'Antona, the league's leading hitter, in the sixth.

Barden, who played at Oregon State, had two hits for the Sidewinders, the defending PCL and Triple-A champions.

The Beavers got to within a run in eighth. Dowdy doubled off reliever Casey Daigle, moved to third on a groundout and later scored on a two-out single by Royce Huffman.

Chad Harville retired the side in order in the ninth for his sixth save.
