Sidewinders Bounce Back To Beat Portland 4-3

Tucson, AZ - Eighteen hours after being shutout by the Portland Beavers, the Tucson Sidewinders came back today to win 4-3 and earn the four game series split. RHP Enrique Gonzalez earned the win for Tucson after going seven innings and giving up just two runs. He struck out six and walked one in the contest.

Portland got on top early with two runs in the top of the first on an RBI double by 1B Brian Myrow, scoring 2B Brett Dowdy and SS Craig Stansberry who each singled. Dowdy was 2-for-4 in the game with two runs scored.

The Sidewinders came back in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two runs on 1B Chris Carter's second home run of the season. Carter was 1-for-4 on the day with 2 RBI and a run scored. Carter's homer ended the Sidewinders' scoreless streak at 13 innings.

Tucson added one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings on an RBI single by OF Jeff Salazar and a RBI fielder's choice by 3B Jamie D'Antona. The runs gave the Sidewinders a 4-2 lead heading into the seventh inning.

Portland added a run in the top of the eighth, but RHP Chad Harville shut the door in the ninth, giving the Sidewinders their 11th win of the season. The save was Harville's sixth on the season, putting him in a tie for second place in the PCL.

Sidewinders' CF Rich Thompson was 4-for-4 in the game, boosting his average to .385 on the season. SS Brian Barden added two more hits, including his first triple of the season.

The Sidewinders will face the Fresno Grizzlies on Monday in the first game of their four game series. First pitch is at 6:30 PM. RHP D.J. Carrasco (1-1, 2.51) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Right-hander Matt Kinney (1-2, 3.51) will start for the Grizzlies. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:15 p.m.
