OKC Hands South Bay Third Loss of the Season

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - The South Bay Lakers fell to the Oklahoma City Blue, 103-99, on Friday night. In his first game with South Bay (0-3), Johnathan Williams tallied 21 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. The Blue (3-0) grabbed the win behind 27 points from Scotty Hopson.

The two teams were tightly contested after one, 27-24, as Isaac Bonga got it going with two early three-pointers for six points in the quarter. South Bay took a 54-52 lead at halftime as they tallied their first 30-point quarter of the season behind 10 points from Williams in the second.

The Lakers built a 10-point lead, 80-70, after the third quarter as Bonga pitched in nine more points in the frame. The Blue came all the way back in the fourth quarter, outscoring South Bay 33-19, behind a combined 14 points from Hopson and Thunder-assignee Abdel Nader.

Hopson led the way for the Blue with 27 points, seven rebounds and two blocks while Nader finished with 20 points of his own. Tyler Davis (eight points, 12 rebounds) and Richard Solomon (six points, 11 rebounds) controlled the glass, while Bryce Alford (11 points) and Dez Wells (10 points) scored in double figures off the bench.

Williams played well in his G League debut, while Bonga continued his strong start to the season with 18 points, six rebounds and two assists. Jemerrio Jones picked up his first career double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds to go along with three assists, three steals and one block. Joel Berry II (14 points) and Scott Machado (10 points, four assists) also finished in double digits for the Lakers.

The South Bay Lakers will head home to host the Iowa Wolves on Monday, November 12 at 7:00pm PT from the UCLA Health Training Center.
