Austin Spurs Defeat Northern Arizona Suns 99-88

?AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Spurs (1-1), presented by SWBC, defeated the Northern Arizona Suns (1-3), 99-88, at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park on Friday evening. The Spurs celebrated the win by honoring former servicemen and women with their annual Veteran's Appreciation night.

?Jaron Blossomgame led the Spurs with his first double-double of the season with 23 points (10-15 FG, 1-2 3FG) and 10 rebounds in 37 minutes. Drew Eubanks notched 16 points (6-11 FG, 4-4 FT), seven rebounds, and five blocks in 27 minutes to help the Spurs establish a defensive presence.

The game began slowly with both teams shooting 40 percent and under from the field in the first. After four ties and three lead changes, the first quarter ended in a 21-18 lead for the Suns. After an early second quarter run the Suns found themselves up 15, but a late push by the Spurs kept the game competitive at 47-40 going into the half.

Austin started the second half strong with Drew Eubanks scoring three straight with a pair of blocks to help lock down the defensive end. The Spurs kept up the defensive pressure in the third, holding the Suns to 21.4 percent (6-28) shooting from the field and only 9.1 percent (1-11) shooting from beyond the arc. In addition to their defense, the Spurs added 24 third quarter points on 66.7 percent field goal shooting to finish the quarter tied 64-64.

The Spurs maintained momentum in the fourth and burst into the lead with a 10-0 run towards the beginning of the quarter. The Suns fought back to tie the game at 84-84 with 2:40 left in the game. Healthy free throw shooting allowed the Spurs to break away in the final minutes of the contest, ultimately outscoring the Suns 35-24 in the fourth and finishing the contest up 99-88.

?De'Anthony Melton poured in 25 points (10-20 FG, 3-10 3FG) while grabbing 8 rebounds for the Suns.
