Oklahoma City Comets News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Dodgers and Devon Energy have teamed up to present the second Devon Energy Hometown Heroes Celebration Night of the season Saturday, Aug. 1, at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The special night of events will recognize the sacrifices of local service men and women, as well as their families.
The Dodgers play the New Orleans Zephyrs at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, and fans can enjoy pre-game activities in front of Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark beginning at 5:30 p.m. Pregame demonstrations from different military branches will take place. Military vehicles will also be on display, while various challenges and recruiting information will be available for guests on the plazas along South Mickey Mantle Drive.
"Devon is pleased to celebrate the military because we know it is their commitment that protects our freedom and preserves our way of life," said Alan Marcum, executive vice president for administration at Devon Energy. "At Devon, we value integrity and doing the right thing. Those values are exemplified by military service, and that's why we honor service members and their families."
Scheduled on-field events throughout the evening include a pregame flag unveiling, a pregame swearing-in ceremony of new Air Force recruits and a welcome home ceremony of recently deployed airmen and airwomen from Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City.
"Military members and their families are uniquely connected to the Oklahoma City community," OKC Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes said. "We are honored to partner with Devon Energy to have this night dedicated to celebrating our service men and women along with the families who support them."
Robert Rother, reservoir engineering manager at Devon Energy, is scheduled to throw out the first pitch. Multiple representatives from Tinker Air Force Base will also participate in the evening's events.
Tickets for Devon Energy Hometown Heroes Celebration Night, as well as all the home games remaining on the OKC Dodgers' 2015 schedule, are available through the OKC Dodgers ticket office located on South Mickey Mantle Drive, by phone at (405) 218-1000, or by visiting okcdodgers.com.
