Reno Aces News Release
RENO - Brandon Drury's perfect 5-for-5 night at the plate led the Reno Aces (@Aces) to a 10-4 win over the Fresno Grizzlies Wednesday night at Aces Ballpark.
The second baseman's five hits tied a career-high and included the first Triple-A home run of his career. He had three doubles, three RBI and also scored a pair of runs. It's the second time Drury has notched three doubles in a game for the Aces since being transferred from Double-A Mobile on June 22.
Fresno jumped on Aces' starter Jhoulys Chacin right away in the first inning. Domingo Santana delivered a two-run double and Nolan Fontana knocked a run in with a base hit to make it 3-0 before the Aces came to the plate.
Drury wasted little time getting a run back for Reno. With one out in the home half of the first, he drilled the first pitch he saw from Mike Hauschild off the scoreboard in left-field for a solo homer.
The Grizzlies added a run in the second inning, but the Aces bounced back in a big way in the third. Three consecutive hits to start the bottom of the third cut the deficit in half. Drury doubled to start the rally and moved to third on a base hit to right from Nick Evans.
Jamie Romak followed with a base hit to right-center to score Drury and make it a 4-2 game. Two batters later, Peter O'Brien launched a mammoth three-run homer over the scoreboard to put the Aces in front, 5-4. The home run was O'Brien's 18th of the season.
Reno grabbed a single run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Nick Buss (@chilibuss), then plated four runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Up 6-4 with two on and two out in the seventh, catcher Blake Lalli (@BlakeLalli) belted a two-run double to score Danny Dorn and Danny Worth to up the lead to 8-4. Mike Freeman (@MikeBFree5) singled to send Lalli to third and set up Drury who came to the plate 4-for-4 on the night.
He drilled a 2-2 pitch high off the wall in left-field to score Lalli and Freeman with his third double and fifth hit of the night.
The bullpen trio of Keith Hessler, Matt Stites (@matt_stites) and Matt Reynolds held the Grizzlies off the scoreboard for the final 3 2/3 innings. Chacin went 5 2/3 and picked up his third win of the season.
Every Aces player in the lineup had at least one hit. Dorn and O'Brien each had multi-hit games to help Drury lead the charge on a 16-hit night.
With the win, the Aces are now 8.0 games back of the Pacific North Division-leading Grizzlies with 40 games remaining.
Game two of the three-game series is scheduled for Thursday night at Aces Ballpark. The Aces have not announced a starter to go against right-hander Asher Wojciechowski (5-2, 5.38) for Fresno. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
