Oilers Take Two More

TULSA, OK- The Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League improved upon their best start in franchise history this last weekend with victories over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Friday night and the Oklahoma City Blazers on Saturday night. The wins ran their season record to 12-1-0, and their 24 points are tops in the CHL and 12 points ahead of the Amarillo Gorillas in the Northwest Division standings.

On Friday night, the Oilers defeated the Mudbugs 3-0 at the Tulsa Convention Center. Tulsa scored one goal in each of the three periods while goalie Rod Branch stopped all 27 shots he faced to record his fourth shutout of the season. Tulsa's goal scorers included Todd Marcellus, who scored twice, and Pat Hallett.

The Oilers continued their hot play on Saturday night as they hosted the Oklahoma City Blazers. Tulsa beat the Blazers for the third time this season, 8-5, in front of a season-high 6,219 fans. The Blazers got on the board first at the 5:50 mark of the first, but the Oilers soon responded with a flurry of three goals to end the first-period scoring. Tulsa went up 4-1 early in the second behind a goal from Klage Kaebel. The Blazers scored the next three goals to knot the game at four apiece before Pat Hallett scored a late second-period goal to take a 5-4 lead into the second intermission. The Oilers then outscored the Blazers 3-1 in the final period to take the 8-5 victory. Hallett recorded a season-high five points on two goals and three assists. Aaron Millar totaled four points on one goal and three assists, while Branch made 45 saves.

The Oilers will be back in action tomorrow night as they host the New Mexico Scorpions (8-5-1) at 7:05. Tulsa won the only previous meeting between these two teams 3-2 on November 10th.
