Indianapolis Ice News Release
PRACTICE SCHEDULE: The Ice practices Monday-Thursday at the Pepsi Coliseum from 10-11:30 p.m. and has a pre-game skate on Friday at the Coliseum from 10-10:45 a.m.
I COME FROM THE LAND DOWN UNDER: Goaltender Shawn Silver continues to impress in the nets for the Icemen. Silver, who is making his North American pro debut this year, saw his goals-against-average dip under 2.00 as his GAA stands at 1.96 entering this week's action, good for third best in the CHL. He deserved a better fate this past weekend as he was on the losing end in two shootouts despite posting a 1.51 GAA and a .946 save percentage.
JUMPING "JOCKO": Veteran forward Kevin St. Jacques looks to make another career jump this weekend as the 11-year pro is just one point shy of 750 for his professional career. St. Jacques, who is currently riding a five-game point streak (4G, 2A), has amassed 749 points (278G, 471A) in 626 career games.
BAIRD'S FINAL TALLY: Jason Baird's season opening point streak came to a close on Saturday, but it is still fresh in Ice record books. The second-year pro tallied at least a point in 12 consecutive games (8G, 8A) which is the longest point streak for a CHL Ice player from the start of the season.
MR. CLUTCH: Ice winger Etienne Morin has been a pleasant addition to the Ice line-up as the rookie forward has four goals in just eight games with the club. The uniqueness of his goals is that three of his four lamplighters have been momentum changers as they are of the game-tying variety.
SHOOTOUT HORROR: Shootouts have haunted the Ice franchise for the last three seasons. After going 7-3 in the extra sessions during the 1999-00 season, the Ice has gone 8-17 the last three years in the shootout. The club is 2-4 in the shootout this season and six of the nine goals have come off the sticks of Kevin St. Jacques (four goals) and Scott Lewis (two goals).
PLAYER NOTABLES: Manute Bol made it to the Ice bench for a period, but was held out of action due to arthritic feet...Ryan Aikia has four assists in his last two games and registered his first three-point game of the year in Saturday's game....Bernie John has seven assists in his last five games....Randy Holmes is one point shy of 450 for his pro career...Bryce Classen notched his first multiple point night with two assists on Saturday, while Andrew Taylor has two goals in his last three games....Kevin Popp tallied his first goal of the year in Saturday's contest.
TEAM FILES: Nine of the team's 13 games this year have been one-goal affairs with the Ice sporting a 3-1-5 clip...With three power play goals on the weekend, the Ice jumped from last to 12th in the league in the power play department...Indy remains strong in penalty killing as the club is fourth at home (30/32, 93.8%) and overall (52/58, 89.7%)...Indy remains last in the CHL in goals/game (2.23), despite ranking third in shots/game (36.77)...The Ice is just 1-4-1 all-time against the Fort Worth Brahmas.
"LADIES NIGHT" ON FRIDAY: Friday's game at the Pepsi Coliseum is "Ladies Night," where all ladies 18 and older get in for only $8 or $6. As usual, prizes will be awarded throughout the evening to the ladies in attendance.
TRUE VIBE ON SATURDAY: Saturday's game at the Pepsi Coliseum will feature a pre-game concert from Christian recording artist, True Vibe. The group, founded by 98 Degrees member, Jonathon Lippman, have appeared on the David Letterman show, opened for acts such as Destiny's Child and Aaron Carter and sang the national anthem for ABC's Monday Night Football. The pre-game concert is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
