Oilers Storm Past Thunder

TULSA, OK- The Wichita Thunder lost 8-3 to the Tulsa Oilers in their preseason finale at the Oilers' Ice Center on Saturday night.

Tulsa utilized a five-goal second period to take control of the game. Matt Robertson broke a 2-2 tie at 3:02 in the second that gave the Oilers a permanent lead. Just nine seconds after Robertson's tiebreaker, Michel Beausolei potted two straight goals that were only 22 seconds apart themselves. Chad Costello scored consecutive goals at 4:40 and 12:25 to open a 7-2 advantage, with the latter goal coming shorthanded. Beausolei finished the night with a hat trick.

Ryan Driscoll, Chris Greene, and Shane Foster accounted for the Thunder scores while Brad Bonello contributed two assists. Marty Magers started in net for the Thunder, saving 10 of 16 during the game's first 31:26. Mark Sibbald worked the final 28:34, stopping 16 of 18.

Trevor Cann earned the win for the Oilers, saving 11 of 13 through the first 32:25. Sylvain Michaud stopped 10 of 11 in relief of Cann. Tulsa outshot the Thunder 34 to 24 in the game. Each team had one power play goal.

The Thunder now prepares for their regular season opener Friday at Tulsa where Kevin McClelland will make his official debut as Thunder Head Coach. The Thunder's first home game is on Saturday, October 16th at the INTRUST Bank Arena at 7:05 p.m. A pre-game ceremony celebrating the career of Assistant Coach Jason Duda will take place prior to the opening faceoff.
