INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks defeated the Evansville IceMen 4-2 Saturday night in their second and final game of the pre-season. Missouri won both games over the weekend against Evansville, and the Mavs outscored the IceMen 11-3 overall. Four different Mavericks scored goals and defenseman Dominic D'Amour led all scorers with a goal and two assists. Missouri outshot Evansville 44-24.
Chris Mifflen started the scoring at the 8:07 mark of the first period when he slapped home a Simon Watson pass to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead. D'Amour scored with two minutes remaining in the period to give Missouri a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Mavericks' second-year forward Nick Sirota scored his second goal of the pre-season at the 15:33 mark of the second period to give the home team a 3-0 lead. The goal proved to be the game winner and the only goal of the second period.
Adam Knopp broke Mavericks' goaltender Zane Kalemba's bid for a shutout at the halfway point of the third period to cut the Mavericks' lead to 3-1. Missouri quickly answered on Tab Lardner's second goal of the pre-season just 2:35 after Knopp's goal. Finally, at the 17:40 mark, Jeff Nelson tallied his first of the pre-season to finalize the scoring at 4-2.
