Florida Panthers Send Rookie Goalie to Mudbugs

SOUTHAVEN, MS - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs acquired a third goaltender for the 2010-11 Central Hockey League season today when rookie Brian Foster was assigned to the club by the NHL's Florida Panthers/Rochester Americans of the AHL. Foster met the team in Mississippi and is on the bench backing up fellow rookie Jeff Harvey in tonight's preseason opener, which was delayed for nearly an hour after the Mudbugs experi enced bus problems on their way to the DeSoto Civic Center.
Foster, 23, becomes the third NHL-contracted player assigned to the Mudbugs in the last two seasons, with James DeLory (Florida) and Tysen Dowzak (New York Rangers) skating for the team last year.
A fifth-round draft pick of the Panthers in 2005, Foster spent the last four seasons tending goal at the University of New Hampshire. He compiled a 36-25-11 record as the Wildcats' starting goaltender over the last two years and finished his collegiate career with a 2.82 goals-against average, .910 saves percentage and five shutouts.
In March, the Pembroke, New Hampshire native made 24 saves to help UNH earn a 6-2 upset of Cornell in the first round of this year's NCAA tournament. The win echoed similar heroics from the 2009 tournament, when Foster stopped 40 shots to help the Wildcats knock off North Dakota 6-5 in overtime.
The 6-2, 180-pound netminder was in training camp with the Rochester Americans (Florida's AHL affiliate) before being assigned to Bossier-Shreveport.
