Tulsa Oilers News Release

ALLEN, TX - A disappointing dose of deja vu descended on the Tulsa Oilers in a 5-3 setback to the Allen Americans on Friday night at the Allen Event Center. For a second straight game, the Oilers watched the Americans break open a tight contest with an onslaught of offense in the third period. Allen found the net four times in the span of seven minutes during the final frame on Friday and handed Tulsa its sixth straight loss. After outscoring the Oilers 3-1 in the third period last Sunday, the Americans out-gunned the Oilers 4-2 on Friday and have now won seven of the last eight meetings between the two rivals.

Both sides were held off the scoreboard in the opening period that saw the Oilers outshoot the Americans 15-7. Less than two minutes into the second, Allen defenseman Kevin Young received a pass from Jack Combs and put a fake on Tulsa goalie Kevin Carr before sliding the puck into the net. Young's third tally of the season gave the home side a 1-0 advantage. The Oilers responded at the 9:50 mark of the middle frame with a power play strike from Drew Fisher. With Trevor Ludwig in the box for cross-checking, Fisher unloaded a one-timer from one knee that screamed past Riley Gill to level the game at 1-1. Fisher's eighth goal of the year snapped the Oilers out of a four-game power play drought.

The first half of the third period belonged to the Americans and it was Chad Costello who put his squad back in front just 1:40 into the frame. Costello zipped a snap shot to the short side of Carr for his 17th goal of the season. Allen seized a 2-1 lead and wouldn't give it back. Jamie Schaafsma buried his own rebound at 5:23 to give the Americans a two-goal cushion and the Oilers were finished off by a quick two goal burst from Ian Schultz and Rylan Schwartz. Combs set up Schultz in front of the Tulsa net at 8:12 and just 27 seconds later, Schwartz crammed a loose puck past Carr to make it a 5-1 Americans lead. The Oilers were able to make the final margin less lopsided thanks to another power play goal from Fisher and the 11th tally of the season from T.J. Caig.

Fisher finished his night with a goal and two assists while his former Bemidji State teammate and rookie center Jeff Jubinville recorded three assists for his first three-point night as a pro. Combs notched an assist on four of Allen's five goals and Costello, who now has 10 points in his last three games against Tulsa, chipped in a goal to go along with two assists.

The Oilers were 2-for-8 on the power play while the Americans were 0-for-4 with the man-advantage. Gill made 31 saves and improved to 5-1-1 against the Oilers.

Tulsa is 13-14-3 overall and dipped below .500 for the first time this season.

The two clubs will face off again on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. at the BOK Center in the 12th meeting of the season.
