Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - In the fourth of nine head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel outlasted the Cincinnati Cyclones on Friday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum by a final score of 4-3. With the win, the Fuel improved to 6-16-2-3 overall this season and with 17 points, remain alone in seventh place in the ECHL's North Division standings.
In a high-scoring first period, Patrick Cehlin broke the ice for Cincinnati less than three minutes into the game, as Cehlin's second marker of the season made it 1-0 Cyclones. The Fuel responded rapidly with back-to-back tallies from Robert Czarnik at even strength at 4:52 and Garett Bembridge on the power-play at 14:19 to claim what proved to be a short-lived 2-1 lead. Cincinnati scrapped back to tie the game at two heading into the first intermission with Cehlin's second of the period, an extra-man score that came with just four seconds remaining in the frame, assisted by David Pacan and Shayne Taker.
In a penalty-filled middle frame, Cincinnati claimed a 3-2 advantage on a Pacan left-circle wrister at 10:37, but Czarnik and the Fuel fought back to tie the game at 16:20 thanks to the Detroit native's second score of the night and 16th marker of the season, assisted by Mathieu Brisebois and Nick Bruneteau.
Friday's third period featured only one score, but a dramatic tally it was as Patrick Cullen coaxed home his seventh marker of the season, a point-blank, power-play one-timer, at 9:26, assisted by Bembridge and Pete Massar that made it 4-3 Fuel and, after a thrilling stretch run, proved to be the game winner.
Mac Carruth was stellar in net for the Fuel on Friday as the Jackson, Wyoming native stopped 20 of the 23 pucks he faced to earn his first win of the season in an Indy uniform and Rob Madore put forth a stout effort in the Cincinnati cage as well, as the 'Clones keeper posted a 25-save performance in defeat.
