Cannata Reassigned to Reign

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, have announced that goaltender Joe Cannata has been reassigned to the club from the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League by the Vancouver Canucks.

Cannata, 24, currently leads all ECHL goaltenders with a 1.77 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage. He has allowed just 16 goals in nine games with Ontario and has posted a 5-3-0-1 record with one shutout. He was named the ECHL Goaltender of the Week on Oct. 21, following the first weekend of the season.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound stopper has played in one match for Utica this season, sporting a 2.03 goals-against average and .917 save percentage. The Wakefield, Mass. native appeared in 28 games with the Comets last season and went 11-12-1-3 with a 2.83 goals-against average and .907 save percentage.

A sixth-round selection (173rd overall) of the Canucks in the 2009 NHL"ˆEntry Draft, Cannata played four years at Merrimack College from 2008-12, where he appeared in 122 career games posting an overall record of 59-46-16 with seven shutouts, a 2.47 goals-against average and a save percentage of .915.

Cannata is expected to be in the lineup for Ontario tonight when the Reign take on the Idaho Steelheads.

Reign Drops :

On Sunday, Jan. 4, the Reign will host the Stockton Thunder at 3 p.m. The first 5,000 fans that enter Citizens Business Bank Arena will receive a Reign Dance Team Poster, compliments of the Ontario Reign Dance Team.
