Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings (37-11-2-1) held off the Regina Pats (19-25-1-1) on Friday night for a 6-3 win in front of another raucous Rogers Place crowd to run their season-high win streak up to seven games.

The Oil Kings came out firing in the first period as they tossed 18 shots the way of Regina netminder Drew Sim, but could only beat the Tees, AB product just once to take a one-goal lead to the first intermission.

Just 2:47 into the first period, Shea Van Olm turned on the red light as he stopped up in front of the Regina net and had a Kaiden Guhle shot bounce in off his foot.

Early in the second period, the Oil Kings were able to tack on a pair of power play goals to build a 3-0 lead.

With the Oil Kings on a five-on-three power play, Josh Williams cashed in 1:17 into the middle stanza as he stuffed home a loose pick in front of the Regina net for his 200th career WHL point.

Just 48 seconds later, Carter Souch expanded the lead to three as he wired home a one-timer from the right-wing circle on a setup from Guhle and Luke Prokop.

The Pats were able to get one goal back in the period as Stanislav Svozil ripped a one-timer to the back of the Edmonton net on a Regina power play just before the midway mark of the period.

The Oil Kings had several dangerous looks, including a couple of posts hit by Jalen Luypen and Dylan Guenther, to restore their three-goal lead but had to settle for a 3-1 edge at the second intermission.

For a second straight meeting between these two clubs, the Pats would erase a two-goal third period deficit, only to see the Oil Kings score three unanswered goals of their own to escape with the two points.

Regina got markers from Zane Rowan and Tanner Howe in the opening 10 minutes of the third period to even the score 3-3.

Guenther would quickly restore the Edmonton lead with a tremendous individual effort as he raced into the Regina zone down the left-side of the ice, and with a pair of defenders in tow, charged hard to the crease and slammed home the puck while diving to his stomach.

The Oil Kings tacked on two more goals in the final 1:03 of the game as each of Williams and Souch would tally their second goals of the night to give Edmonton the 6-3 decision.

Sebastian Cossa earned his league-best 26th win of the season with 21 saves, while Sim finished up with 43 saves in the losing cause. The Oil Kings went two-for-five on the power play, the Pats were one-for-five.

Next up, the Oil Kings continue their six-game homestand tomorrow night when they the Prince Albert Raiders to Rogers Place at 7:00 PM.
