X-marks the spot
Portland has a few scenarios in play tonight where it could become the third Western Hockey League Club to clinch postseason berth. A win tonight would lock in the Winterhawks spot to the 2022 WHL Playoffs, so would an overtime/shootout loss OR a Spokane loss to Tri-City. If any of those three scenarios happen tonight, the Winterhawks will officially punch their ticket.
The Winterhawks sit at 71 points in the standings, which is six points ahead of Seattle and seven up on Kelowna, and they just need to reach 72 points to clinch or get some help from the Americans.
Closing in on 100
Winterhawks co-captain Tyson Kozak recorded two assists last night (*note: two of his four assists in Friday's stat line will be taken away) and now sits at 99 points career points. If he records a point in the weekend finale, he will become the 135th Winterhawk to reach the century mark in points during his Winterhawks career.
The former sixth-round WHL Bantam selection has 25 goals and 34 assists for 59 points in 51 games this season to sit top 15 in league scoring.
Distribute the puck
Not many teams boast the same offensive prowess as the Winterhawks. Portland is averaging a fraction under six goals-per-game in February and 16 of the 19 healthy skaters have scored this month. Portland is one of two Western Conference teams with four 50+ point producers.
Gabe Klassen recorded the team's fourth hat trick of the season on Friday to inch him closer to joining a few of his teammates in the 50-point club. In three wins against Prince George this season, the Hawks have outscored them 17-5.
