Oil Kings Make Nine Selections at 2023 WHL Prospects Draft

(Edmonton, AB) - The Edmonton Oil Kings made a total of nine selections at today's 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.

In total, the Oil Kings drafted six forwards, two defencemen and one goaltender.

Round 1 | 12th overall | RW Joe Iginla

Iginla is a product of Lake Country, BC and played this past season with the U15 Prep Rink Hockey Academy in Kelowna where he finished 6th in CSSHL scoring after putting up 65 points (37G, 28A) in just 27 games. During the post-season, he had 12 points (6G, 6A) in five games.

The 5-foot-10, 148-pound winger is the son of former NHLer, 2020 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee and St. Albert native Jarome Iginla.

Round 2 | 34th overall | G Parker Snell

Snell is a St. Albert, AB product and played this past season with the U15 Prep Northern Alberta Xtreme going a perfect 15-0-0 in the regular season with a 1.35 goals-against average, .944 save percentage and four shutouts.

He led the CSSHL in goals-against average, save percentage and shutouts. During the post-season, he guided NAX to the championship going 4-0-0 with a 2.49 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage.

The 6-foot, 159-pound netminder also went 4-0 with a 1.75 goals-against average, .925 save percentage and two shutouts with the U17 Prep Northern Alberta Xtreme Club.

Round 3 | 45th overall | D Joshua Lee

Lee is a North Vancouver, BC product and played this past season with the U15 Prep Delta Hockey Academy Green where the 5-foot-6, 120-pound rearguard put up 27 points (4G, 23A) in 28 games.

Round 3 | 57th overall | C Cage Smith

Smith is a Brooks, AB product and played this past season with the U15 Prep Rink Hockey Academy in Kelowna where he had 51 points (21G, 30A) in 27 games. In five post-season games, he had 13 points (3G, 10A).

The 5-foot-7, 130-pound centermen was a teammate and linemate of Oil Kings 2023 first-round pick Joe Iginla this season.

Round 4 | 79th overall | C Matt Williams

Williams is a Leduc, AB product and played this past season with the U15 AAA Leduc Oil Kings where he had 62 points (19G, 43A) in 32 games.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound centermen finished eighth in points and third in assists in the AEHL.

Round 6 | 111th overall | C Alexandre Andre

Andre is a Winnipeg, MB product and played this past season with the U15 AAA Winnipeg Bruins where amassed 53 points (27G, 26A) in 34 games to go along with six points (4G, 2A) in six post-season games.

The 5-foot-8, 137-pound centermen finished third on his team in scoring during the regular season.

Round 8 | 167th overall | RW Seth Castronuovo

Castronuovo is an Abbotsford, BC product and played this past season with the U15 Varsity Yale Hockey Academy where he recorded 58 points (30G, 28A) in 25 games to go along with nine points (5G, 4A) in five post-season games.

The 6-foot-1, 150-pound winger led the CSSHLV in points and was second in goals.

Round 9 | 177th overall | C Charlie Kay

Kay is a Saskatoon, SK product and played this past season with the U15 AA Saskatoon Outlaws where he tallied 54 points (26G, 28A) in 30 games while adding an additional seven points (1G, 6A) in five post-season games.

The 5-foot-10, 150-pound centermen finished third on his team in scoring.

Round 10 | 199th overall | D Levi DeWitt

DeWitt is a Sicamous, BC product and played this past season with the U15 AA North Zone Kings where he put up 25 points (9G, 16A) in 24 games.

The 6-foot, 173-pound blueliner finished second in defenceman scoring in his league.
