38 Manitobans Names Called on WHL Prospects Draft Day

Brandon M.B. - The 2023 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft was held Thursday and among the players selected there was 38 from Manitoba.

Brandon's Jaxon Jacobson was the top Manitoban chosen in the draft, going fifth overall to the Wheat Kings. The Brandon native was selected in the exact same spot as last years top Manitoba pick Cole Temple, who's also from Brandon.

In total, the draft saw 3 Manitoban's selected in round one, 2 in the second, 3 in the fourth and fifth rounds, 5 in the sixth, 4 in the seventh, 3 in the eighth, 5 in the ninth, and a pair in the final 3 rounds to finish with 38 total picks.

The Brandon Wheat Kings selected 11 players in the 2023 Prospects Draft, which include 4 Manitoban players. One from Brandon, one from Souris and two from Winnipeg. Among them are forward Jaxon Jacobson(Brandon), Goaltender Dylan McFadyen(Winnipeg), forward Julian Fedora(Winnipeg) and Blue Liner Jack Swaenepoel(Souris). All 4 players are on the Manitoba Top 40 Program of Excellence.
